WIP Zombie Hospital Beds

I have been working on some hospital beds since my last blog. Here's a photo of the progress:

Starting from the left:
1 nicely made bed (ready for a patient)
1 untidy bed (Maybe a dead person has risen and is now a zombie!)
1 storage bed (Gotta have somewhere to store all those excess pillows and blankets. There is also a medical box which is full of umm medical stuff...or weapons?!)
2 corpses (bottom one is male, top is female. More noticeable in person because of the "bumps"... yeah you know what I mean)

The next bed is of a male who couldn't make it out of bed in time. He has been fed upon, with intestines hanging out and part of his brain scooped out. I plan to do a similar one for a female too, different injury type though.
The others will be a combo of male/female living, and some which are fed upon. I should be able to finish them next week and will get casting straight away.

NOW I NEED HELP!! - So I have a question regarding those barrier things which stop people from falling out of the bed. Should I put side barriers on some beds or not worry about them. They aren't difficult to make, but they will only be able to go on some beds because of casting reasons. When they are in place (lifted up) I can do them (only about 4 beds would need them), but when they are lowered to the side of the bed they will cause casting problems as I am using 1 part resin moulds which always have one side which is flat... so they would't cast properly. So my question is, should I just leave them off and not worry about them, or should I just put them on 4 of the beds?

ZOMBIE NURSES... There has been a delay casting them. I've been told moulding should start early next week. So it's looking like I will have them ready for sale around the beginning to mid July... (hopefully the beginning) sorry! It's completely out of my control. Just wondering, who is likely to want them?

Cheers for any input and you time!
Me!

  1. I'll want some of those nurses, please. I think you should leave the rails off the beds for the most part. Perhaps have them up on the victims who've been fed upon, who "couldn't get out of bed in time," as you said.

    1. Yeah that's kinda what I was thinking, put them on only a few beds where it would make sense to have them :) Hopefully the nurses will be sorted soon *fingers crossed* :)

  2. Those beds are looking great. I was just over at your store to see if any had been released, yet. That's how much I want to get some. :) Keep up the great work. I think a couple of beds with rails up would be good. Maybe a gurney cart would be nice, too.

    1. Cheers! I think a few with and a few without should be good. I was hoping that the nurses would be out this month, but the metal casting had to do some emergency work for another customer. As soon as they are available I'll update it on here and Facebook :)

  3. Bloody hell, Carl, you've been busy haven't you?! Fantastic stuff! I love the different tops for the hospital beds. I want them all and I want more than one of each. I can hear my wallet screaming in pain already!

As for the railings, I don't think it's necessary to sculpt them for every bed, especially if it's going to be too much hassle.

You ask who wants zombie nurses? Me, please!

    1. Hehe why thank you! :D If these prove to be good sellers then I will most likely make some other resin scenery for hospitals and all the moulds I'm likely to bring out in the future :)

  4. I would leave the rails off. I would have no objection if they were inplace. I just feel they may not be required, (at least from my point of view.)

Keep up the good work, I'm always looking for good and quirky scenery. And I like the way these can be used in a near future way as well as modern.

  5. Those beds really look the dogs bollox.
Guard rails ? Your choice really, but I'd go for both and let the punters decide which they want, I'm guessing it'll be a fifty/fifty spread, but most wouldn't be bothered especially if it meant you getting the standard beds out quicker !

    1. Haha cheers! :D

I'll add rails to some of them, and leave some without :)I plan to put them up for sale when the zombie nurses are ready, that way people can save on postage :)

  6. They all look really great and you work really fast. I'll eventually get the beds, regardless of whether there are bars or not. I think having them would be cool.

    1. Cheers Adam! I have decided to do a mixture of both. The beds which make sense to have the barriers will have them (such as one's with patients in). I was thinking of doing more solid barriers than bars, like this: http://image.made-in-china.com/2f0j00TekQrsZDYIqH/Electric-Hospital-Bed-IC-04-.jpg

  7. Is there any way you could just cast bars seperately in metal and people would simply assemble them if they'd see fit? It would also make the moulding easier, but having 2 materials brings in other problems, I guess.

Great number of variety, by the way! The eaten victim simply has to be the best of the bunch! :D

    1. If I cast them in metal I would need to add them to one of my figure moulds, which would increase the price as metal cost more than resin. So if I added metal parts, I would have to increase the price :(

Hehe, I plan to do a female who is torn apart too :)

  8. Nice stuff here :)

For those of you wanting rails on the beds, all it would take is a couple of small holes and a bent bit of brass wire. 0.8mm drill bit in a pin vice with some 0.8mm wire from Hobby Craft (the jewelry making area).

Casting railings would be a pain because they would need to be really thin and the casting process wouldn't work so you would end up with lots of semi-filled moulds.

    1. Thanks! :) I was thinking the same with the railings, they would prove difficult to cast, and if I did manage to cast them, it would push the price up as extra work is involved. I'm thinking of doing some basic solid bar/barrier things like seen on modern hospital beds.

  9. Love them mate! I do not think railings would be too important.

How about a bedpan on one of them? We talked earlier about an oxygen tank on some of them. That wouldbe cool.

Could you do one so the former patient seem to come back to unlife?

And write me down for these babies!!!

    1. A bed pan!! How could I forget about those... then again, they aren't something I like to think about haha I shall add some!

As for a patient coming back to life, I will also be selling some body bags and shrouds (I think that's what they are called... the guys who are just wrapped up in sheets). We have a few of those, which some are "dead" and some are starting to reanimate in their bodybag/sheet wrappings. I'll take some photos when I can :)

  10. Would it be easier to cast them as seperate pieces like these? That way they are not so much bars but a single piece.

    1. Hey there! Those are the kind I was thinking of doing. Bars would be too difficult, but solid side panels would be much easier :) I would only need to put them on the one's with people in them. I shall get to work on it in the morning :) Thanks for the comment!
