So I was wondering: What kinda of accessories would people like to see for their zombie/apocalypse games or collections?
I'm thinking in terms of small things which I could possibly sculpt/build and then make out of resin.
Lemme know your ideas. I'm not promising to make them, but if the ideas are popular then I might consider doing it as a side project to actual sculpting and getting them out for sale.
Hmm, apart from things like dust bins etc (bits of colour for the game table), maybe some game markers to represent spawn points or barricade markers.
ReplyDeleteI would have to put a lot more thought in to it, but I thought I would get the ball rolling for you.
I'm not in a super rush, so I have plenty of time to think about it too :)
DeleteI love this idea, Carl, but a lot of the stuff that would fall into your category has already been made by other companies. Stuff like street furniture (dustbins, fire hydrants, post boxes, etc.) or interior furniture exist already, although you could always do your own versions of them.
ReplyDeleteSomething that I'd like to see, and which would be very easy for you to sculpt, are wooden barricades to fit over doors and windows to protect a building from zombies breaking and entering. I'd buy a load of them if you made them!
One niche market that definitely needs filling is hospital furniture, but I realise these would be a lot more difficult to make. After all, a typical hospital bed is far more complex than a bed used at home. But I know a lot of people who would like appropriate furniture to use in a hospital building, myself included. Too ambitious?
Yeah a lot of the items have already been done, which kinda made me think the idea was a bit pointless.
DeleteHospital stuff might work in well with the first range of zombies I did, they shouldn't cause too much problems :)
As for door/window barricades, do you mean sculpt pieces of wood that have been nailed together which can then be put over doors, like this kind of thing: http://www.halloween-online.com/sfx/boarded-up-windows-1.jpg ??
I want to request hospital furniture as well. The beds are a bit more complex than regular beds, but you wouldn't have to make them exactly like real hospital beds, just enough so you know what they are. Medical equipment and privacy curtains for the hospital would be great.
DeleteAs Bryan says, a lot of generic city filler has been made by other companies, but hospitals are a bit of an unfilled void that I think you could do well with.
Hmmm... Seems like hospital stuff might be a good route to go down. Just need to figure out ways to do them for resin casting (it's annoying for complex shapes).
DeleteCarl, that is exactly what I mean! However, you could place the planks of wood closer together to make casting easier.
ReplyDeleteCool, I assume you would want free standing planks for interiors, so you can move them about easier, like if zombies break them down or survivors put them up? If i'm wrong let me know, that way I can try and figure something out :)
DeleteInterior barricades (free standing) should be easy to make. Exterior stuff however is more tricky as they cannot be made free standing for upstairs windows etc. The only way would be to stick them to the buildings somehow, but I don't know how people would feel about that???
Depending on the building, the occupants and the time available, some folk would barricade their windows from the inside and some from the outside. As long as the barricade was wide enough, it could be fixed to the wall either side of the window by glue for a permanent barricade or by Blu-Tac for a temporary barricade that could be removed later. Personally, it wouldn't bother me if the barricades were not free standing and thus had to be fixed in place somehow.
DeleteGiven that windows come in a wide variety of heights and widths it would of course be prudent to make a selection of barricades of varying sizes.
I was thinking, maybe a variety could be done. For example, some that would need gluing/tacking to the walls (just bits of wood). Then some free standing ones where I could incorporate furniture against a door or things stacks up against windows (for inside). This way there's a nice variety so everything doesn't look the same.
DeleteGood thinking, Carl.
DeleteA lot of good ideas so far. But as a lot of stuff is readily available i'm at a bit of a loss as to suggest anything.
ReplyDeleteYeah it's tough thinking of appropriate things which haven't already been done by others. The only thing I can do is put my own twist on things :)
DeleteCorpses - both human and zombie. There just aren't enough of them available and you can never have too many!
ReplyDeleteI second this idea!
DeleteLol by corpses do you mean like body parts and remains of zombies/humans? Otherwise the zombie is technically a corpse lol :P
DeleteThere's a;ways one, isn't there?! :)
DeleteI mean "non-ambulatory bodies of the human variety in a prone position". Is that more precise? ;)
Although, a few "non-ambulatory bodies of domestic pets in a prone position" might not go amiss. And before you ask, I was thinking of dogs and/or cats rather than mice/hamsters/small rodents in general!
The ""non-ambulatory bodies" referred to above could include un-eaten and partially eaten variations
Haha :P Just need to make sure I would be doing the right thing. Cheers for the suggestions/ideas. I have a lot to think about and work on!
DeleteHa! I told you people want corpses! :P
ReplyDeleteAs for barricades for windows and doors, I am not too sure. Just thinking out loud here, but windows and doors come in too big variety of shapes and sizes that one could simply make a good product, imo. And having few stripes of plasticard or matches actually makes a barricade.
Hospital furniture sounds reasonable, and goes with your theme. Maybe some wheelchairs (folded and ready-to-put-a-zed-in), which reminds me, zed in a wheelchair! Then maybe some epruvets lying around (small circular base and few eprouvets sculpted on it, if you knwo what i mean), those organ boxes, cardboard boxes (neatly grouped or turned around, smashed...its apocalypse going on), those boxes for organ transportation...no! GUTS! That'd be fun :D. And some limbs. And maybe even an x-ray machine and things like that, scenery for ordinary doctor's office. Curtains were mentioned :)
Haha yes you did! I like the hospital furnature idea, like beds (must in hospital), stretchers etc etc :)
DeleteCorpses.....I need to show those two I made out of your zombie hospital crew!
ReplyDeleteI second the emotion concerning lab equipment and medical stuff.
Stretchers, with or without people.
How about spawn points?
40mm base, a manhole being opened and a zombie (or more) crawling out?
Bodybags coming back to life !! Hehe...
Yeah! I look forward to seeing them all painted :) I'm thinking hospital beds with people, then a pack without. That could work..
DeleteSpawn points, like entry points to show where they are coming from? Studio miniatures do a zombie in a body bag I think??
I like all of the above ideas and would throw in my vote for markers/tokens:
ReplyDeleteSpawn points (manhole idea is good)
Feasting markers (don't really know how I'd reperesent this other than with a die on the feed base)
Unknown forces (some form of neutral markers/tokens)
Street furniture is readily available for all sorts of things, but there are still a few ommissions : The typical hot-dog seller's stall with umbrella (as seen in all good cop movies), newspaper seller's box with newspapers on it (more Brit than USA I suspect)and I'm sure there are others.
Casualties in varying various states of decay - there seems to be a bit of a dearth in that department as are crawling zombies.
Indeed, street furniture has pretty much been aken care of, all I can do it add my own twist. I have plans for casualties, the next batch of zeds I'm working on will have varies amounts of decay ;)
DeleteRovanite, you have chanced upon the best Zombie community on the internet today, the above guys are Hardcore Zombie fans, and are responsible for the best zombie inspiration on the net today (just check the blogs out if you don't believe me), as far as gaming goes.
ReplyDeleteNow for my input....
1)Corpses, this is a MUST! some gory and some not so ( not so much body parts, might freak out younger gamers...just sayin), cannot tell you how many times I wished some one would make some !!
2)Proper Rager zombies, fast paced zombies, zombies in running stances, I cannot believe no one has sculpted any so far....WTF?
I even considered comissioning someone to do it for me. infact my zombie project has stalled because there aren't any....
Go have a look at my streets, they are empty.... fill them up :)

Hey cheers for the follow!
DeleteThey are a great group of people. Funny you should mention running zombies. I have plans (future plans) to make 4 different kind of zombies, runners, walkers, stumblers and crawlers. Runners will be in running poses, walkers...well walking with a bit of damage, stumblers - more damage and maybe a few broken limbs, then crawlers which will have missing body parts, all crawling on the floor and reaching up. I'll see what I can incorporate into my next lot :)
I shall go look at your street now :)
Great to hear about your plans to make some 'runners' type of zombies, and even the crawler types(not many good ones of those), I'm really looking forward to see what you come up with, thanks for considering our ideas.
DeleteMost welcome! :)
ReplyDeleteThe first batch of zombies I did were mainly walkers (mainly to test what I could get away with in the moulds). So my next lot will be a mixture of walkers and stumblers. Then I will probably do some runners and crawlers together as another mould. So they will be done eventually :)
