In the photo there is also the addition of a bed in the sitting position, which is messy (it wasn't in the last update). The bases in the background need "lifting" mechanisms added (those bars which look like they will raise/lower the bed).Let me know what you think.
Still no news on the recent mould I sent to get caster. But I will update everyone when I know something. At least it gives me a little more time to get these beds sorted :)
Raising money for CGD in memory of my brother
On a different note, this week I crossed the £900 mark for raising money in memory of my brother for a condition we both have, CGD (Chronic Granulomatous Disorder). It's a rare genetic immune system disorder which means we are unable to fight infections easily, and can mean something small can become fatal quickly if not treated. So it means a lot to us that we have raised this amount of money so far as it will go towards helping others who also have this disorder. I hope that this will continue to grow in the future :)
Ok, that's me done for now...more sculpting I think!
EDIT: In order to answer some questions about how I am selling these, I have added to this blog:
I will be selling the beds in 8 different packs. 4 packs with people, and 4 without. They will be as follows: ALL packs come with 2 bed undercarriage parts. So each pack has 4 components.
Pack 1 - 2 empty made beds
Pack 2 - 2 untidy/messy beds (flat)
Pack 3 - 2 untidy messy beds sitting up (when beds are made they are laid flat, so it seemed right to make these messy)
Pack 4 - 1 Storage bed and 1 bare mattress bed (possibly for conversions or just as an empty bed with no sheets).
Pack 5 - Male corpse (sheet over head) and Male half eaten guy sitting up
Pack 6 - Female corpse (sheet over head) and Female half eaten sitting up
Pack 7 - Normal male patient, one sitting and one laying down
Pack 8 - Normal Female patient, one sitting and one laying down
Each pack will cost £2.75 but I plan to give a 10% discount if you buy packs 1-4 and also a 10% discount if you buy packs 5-8. If you want all 8 packs then you get a further discount on top of those. The discounts are to ensure that stock levels go down as equally as possible and also, the more you buy the cheaper it becomes. The cost was based on the amount of resin used in each bed/undercarriage, which is the equivalent to about 3 or so 28mm figures. So each pack you receive, is the equivalent of about 6 or so figures!
Ok... I hope that caters to most of your needs. Unfortunately I can't make everything that is suggested, but I think that covers most things... for now :P
Thanks again for reading!
The more work you do on the beds the better they are looking. Keep going.
ReplyDeleteCheers Clint, I have updated the blog at the bottom (orange writing) which may be of interest :)
DeleteI totally agree with Clint. The more I see of them the more I like them and the more I want them! Outstanding work, Carl.
ReplyDeleteThanks Vampifan! I have updated the blog at the bottom with info you may be interested in :)
DeleteThe beds look great. I like the variety, but I must admit, when I go to purchase, I would probably want mostly the clean, made, and empty bed. The occupied beds are cool too, but I probably wouldn't want more than one of them. Do you plan on selling these as a set, or individually?
ReplyDeleteCheers! I have updated the blog at the bottom with info which should answer your questions :)
DeleteI agree with Clint and Vampifan!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I second Adam's comment about the contents of bed 'packs'; is 'choose any 3 beds' option a possibility?
Why thank you :)I updated the blog at the bottom (orange writing) with info about how they are sold etc :)
DeleteI would probably want an empty bed in the raised position, an empty flat one with the rails up, and and a flat one with a body covered with a sheet, and then several other flat ones with the rails down. I think the bed with the upper part elevated is the most iconic one.
ReplyDeleteI have updated the blog with some info you might be interested in about pricing and how they will be sold :) Cheers as always for the comment!
DeleteWow they are seriously nice mate
ReplyDeleteCheers Brummie! :)
DeleteLove that you took my advice and used some bedpans hehe.
ReplyDeleteThese are really looking great mate! I will be amongst those that get the complete set! (And some doubles)
I had no idea you both had that illness. Damn.... But good to hear the money raising is going good. And on that note...How do we donate to that? Or did I miss something?
Hehe it was a great suggestion! I can't believe I overlooked it! :)
DeleteYeah we both have it. I have luckily not had anything life threatening since 2004/5, just had a few problems here and there since then. Lol I totally forgot to put the link! Here it is: http://www.justgiving.com/Gareth-K-Sutherwood
Really good stuff Rovanite, the detail on these is awesome, your work is very good.
ReplyDeletedid you have any plans for making some 'corpses' ? you know dead Zeds just lying around the streets, sort of like terrain decorations....like we talked about in a previous post :)
Thank you!! :D I have made a mental note of it and wrote it down in my "ideas" note book :) I will make some at some point. My plan is to work on something resin based whilst the figure mould I have been working on is at the casters. So I sculpt figures, send them to the caster, and whilst they are being cast in metal, I sculpt resin stuff. Then when I get the figures back, I work on some more figures and so on. It helps to change it up a bit :)
DeleteSo I will more than likely make some, but I currently don't know when.
Sorry to hear about the illness. But glad to hear you're holding on!
ReplyDeleteThe beds are great. I just have to mention that the woman seems kinda "rich" (wink wink). And for the storage bed...maybe you could do a sort of a...ah...can't find a word. Maybe you could make the stuff seperate, so you'd sell 2 plain beds, but people could put the stuff "token" (I imagine casting every little detail on that bed seperately wouldn't really be a good way to do it) on the bed, maybe even rotate it for some diversity, or just use 2 plain beds for their own needs, if you know what I mean?
Oh, and that one eye in the half eaten guy...great idea!
Keep up the lightning speed! :)
Casting each little bit would be a nightmare. The resin works better in big blocks. So when sculpting the storage bed I had to make sure the resin would flow from one part to another easily. So resin is quite difficult to make small items. I am using 1 part moulds, so there is always one flat side (underneath the bed and underneath the carriage part). So to do each thing individually would lose a lot of their "bent" shapes on all sides and their detail :(
DeleteI was thinking, by putting a plain bed in there, then people can do whatever they want with it. I'm guessing a lot of people won't want to try sculpting, so it can also be used as a bare matress, as if the sheets were just taken off and they are preparing it for a new person...or something lol
I was trying to say all the little pieces would be cast in 1 piece, but not with the bed, so you'd have 2 pieces kit, if you understand me :P. Then you could have either 2 plain beds, or you glue the stuff (that is one piece cast :P) on the bed. You could also rotate if, probably, and get a little tiny bit more variation :P
DeleteOH I see, so sell two empty beds and one storage part, and you can choose to either put the storage part on there or just keep two plain beds?
